Senior Mark Mitchell added another accolade to his resume as he collected NABC All-Central District honors for the second-straight season.
It marks the second-straight year that Mitchell collected the award, earning second-team honors as a senior. He also earned second-team All-SEC honors in his final collegiate campaign.
On target to be just the second player in school history to lead the team in points, rebounds and assists in a single campaign, Mitchell has tallied 18.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists as a senior. One of just seven players in the nation to have totaled 575 points, 160 rebounds and 110 assists this season, Mitchell is also aiming to be the first Tiger to average 17 points, five boards and three assists in a single season since 1992 Big Eight Player of the Year Anthony Peeler.
Mitchell currently ranks sixth in the SEC with his 18.3 points per game – the most by a Tiger in 12 years – and second in the league with a field goal percentage of 55.1. He also places eighth nationally among players 6-9 or taller with 114 total assists.
A team captain with the Tigers, Mitchell has totaled 1,745 points during his four-year collegiate career to go with 677 rebounds and 256 assists.
Mitchell and the Tigers return to the court on Friday, opening play at the NCAA Tournament against Miami. Tipoff at Enterprise Center in St. Louis is set for approximately 9:10 p.m. on truTV.
