Harrison produced her second career no-hitter and 48th no-hitter in program history.
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Mizzou softball (16-18, 1-5 SEC) subdued SIUE (13-18, 6-3 OVC) as senior RHP Cierra Harrison threw a no-hitter in the 8-0 run-rule victory on Tuesday, March 24, at Cougar Field.
Senior RHP Cierra Harrison recorded her second career no-hitter (vs. Texas A&M-Commerce; Feb. 16, 2024), as she went five innings in the run-rule victory. Junior Stefania Abruscato led the charge with three RBIs – two coming via a home run in the first inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers got to work early with the first three batters reaching safely, including a two-run home run from junior Stefania Abruscato – her fourth of the year, and third in the past five games. Mizzou poured it on in the first inning, as freshman Abby Carr singled in a run, before sophomore Madison Uptegrove posted a two-RBI triple – her first triple of the season. The Cougars were finally able to get out of the inning after the Tigers batted around in the first to make it 5-0 after one.
MU's offense slowed in the subsequent innings, before Abruscato picked it back up in the fourth with an RBI single, making it 6-0. Freshman Sidney Forrester singled with no one on and two outs, before being pinch ran for by junior Adi Koller. Koller's speed played a crucial part as she scored from first on a pair of errors from the SIUE outfielders to push the lead to 7-0.
On the cusp of a run-rule, the Tigers were able to get the eighth run of the ball game via a flyout to center field that was followed by an error on the throw.
Harrison commanded the mound on the other side, as she threw her second career no-hitter after a six-strikeout, two-walk day against the Cougars. She is now 7-4 on the season.
