Friday Night’s Game Suspended 7-7, Two Outs in Top of Ninth

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou baseball's series-opening game versus Vanderbilt was suspended, tied 7-7 with two outs in the top of the ninth inning on Friday night at Taylor Stadium. The game will be resumed Saturday at 4 p.m. CT, with Vanderbilt at the plate and runners at second and third base. Saturday's originally scheduled game for 4 p.m. CT will begin 45 minutes after the completion of game one.
The Tigers (21-26, 4-20 SEC) will resume seeking the third out of the top of the ninth frame. After trailing 6-1 entering the bottom of the eighth, Mizzou rallied for six runs to take a 7-6 lead entering the ninth at a foggy Taylor Stadium before Vanderbilt (28-22, 10-14 SEC) tied the game on a two-out, RB ground-rule double that put runners at second and third before the game was suspended due to weather.
After a scoreless first inning, the Commodores plated a run in the second and added a pair in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead. Vanderbilt added to their advantage with a solo home run to extend the lead to 4-0 after five innings.
In the top of the sixth, lefty Dane Bjorn relieved starting pitcher Josh McDevitt after the right-handed starter went five innings, allowing four runs on five hits and a pair of walks, striking out seven.
In the bottom of the sixth, Durnin ripped a double down the left-field line, followed by freshman Blaize Ward's RBI single that drove in the Tigers' first run and cut the Tigers' deficit to three.
Vanderbilt extended its lead with a solo home run and an single RBI in the seventh, which made the score 6-1.
In the eighth, the Tigers struck for six runs. Ward knocked another single, followed by a double from junior catcher Mateo Serna, which ultimately set up redshirt freshman Donovan Jordan for an RBI single. The scoring continued for Mizzou when center fielder Kadan Peer drilled an RBI double. Senior Keegan Knutson and junior Eric Maisonet kept the scoring going with a pair of bunt singles that scored Peer and Jordan.
With the bases loaded, Durnin drew a walk to bring in the tying run for the Tigers. A sacrifice groundout by Ward advanced Maisonet to home plate, giving the Tigers a 7-6 lead heading into the ninth.
