ATHENS, Ga. – Mizzou baseball dropped game two of its three-game Southeastern Conference series at No. 5 Georgia, 13-3, in eight innings Saturday afternoon at Foley Field.
Lefty Brady Kehlenbrink made his 12th start of the season on the mound for the Tigers (21-25, 4-19 SEC) and threw four innings, allowing four runs on six hits and no walks while striking out six. The Mizzou bats slugged three home runs, but it was not enough to overcome the offensive surge by the Bulldogs (37-11, 17-6 SEC).
The Tigers threatened with one out and a pair of runners in scoring position in the top of the second inning but were unable to capitalize. In the bottom half, the Bulldogs struck first, plating a pair on a two-run double to left field. Kehlenbrink responded with a fly out and a pair of strikeouts to end the inning and strand a Georgia runner at third base.
The Bulldogs tacked on a run in the third with a solo home run off the bat of Tre Phelps to make it a 3-0 game.
In the top of the fourth, Missouri loaded the bases before back-to-back strikeouts ended the scoring threat for the Tigers once again. Georgia pushed another run across to score in the bottom of the fourth on a sac-fly to extend its lead to four.
Shortstop Kam Durnin got the Tigers on the board in the fifth with a solo shot (365 ft.) to left field for his fifth home run of the season to make it a 4-1 game.
Right-handed sophomore Trey Lawrence relieved Kehlenbrink to start the fifth and posted a scoreless inning with a pair of punch outs before Donovan Jordan stepped to the plate in the top of the sixth and belted a solo shot (393 ft.), trimming Georgia's lead to a pair.
An infield error by the Tigers to begin the bottom half of the sixth followed by Bulldog Ryan Wynn's third double of the game plated a run for Georgia before it loaded the bases. A bases-loaded HBP brought in a second run to make the score 6-2, Bulldogs, before Durnin, Blaize Ward and Jase Woita teamed up for a 6-4-3 twin killing to escape further damage.
Woita came to the plate to lead off the seventh and blasted a 107-mph, 409-foot solo shot for his team-leading 11th home run of the campaign, trimming the Georgia lead back to three. However, the Bulldogs were able to answer with five runs of their own in the bottom half to take a commanding 11-3 lead.
With a run-rule victory in sight, Georgia received a two-out, two-run single from catcher Brennan Hudson to walk the Bulldogs off as winners, 13-3, in eight innings.
