Catching Up With Cayce
What sport would you choose if not playing golf, and why? |
Track and field. When I was a runner and jumper in high school, I was in the best shape of my life |
First memory of golf? |
Playing with my dad at 6 years old, where I only had 3 clubs in a US Kids golf bag |
When did you get hooked on golf? |
Once I started playing on the high school team at age 12. |
Are you excited for the new rules of golf coming in 2019? Why/why not? |
Some are going to help with pace, like the 3 minute search rule; dropping from knee height is going to help keep the ball where you want it, which is great. |
Favorite club in the bag right now |
My new 58 degree MD4 Calloway wedge spins like a dream! |
Favorite type of shot to play |
A high draw with a 7 iron |
Hardest shot for you to play |
Fairway bunkers greater than 200 yards from the green |
What driver & putter are in your bag? |
The Calloway XR15 driver and the Bettinardi iNOVAi putter |
Favorite golf moment |
My hole out with a 7 iron at the 2018 MountainView collegiate hole #10 |
Any hole in ones? |
2, but both before I got to college |
How do you cope with a bad shot? |
Take a deep breath, start my routine over and think of how to save par/bogey |
What advice would you give to junior golfers? |
Attitude and demeanor is just as, if not more, important than performance. If you want to represent a great university, you have to be classy on the course. |
What’s your pre-shot routine? |
One practice swing, stand behind the ball to pick a target, line up, and fire |
Coolest course you’ve played? |
Torrey Pines in San Diego, CA |
Toughest course you’ve played? |
Maridoe golf club in Dallas, TX |
Prefer a Par 3, Par 4 or Par 5? |
Par 3. It’s where you can pick up the most shots on opponents |
Do you like to talk to playing partners or do you keep to yourself? |
I talk as much as they will! |
What do you want to do post-golf, career-wise? |
Join my father’s financial advising firm, Hendrickson Wealth & Retirement as marketing director and eventually a financial advisor |
What part of the game do you feel most comfortable with? |
Mental game. I know I can recover from anything and talk myself out of even the worst slumps. |
How frustrating is this game? |
10/10 on the frustration scale. |
Do you remember the good shots or the bad shots more? |
The good ones. If I’m not careful, they’ll set my expectations too high, whereas bad shots are forgotten in just a moment. |
What part of your game do you want to improve the most? |
I want to improve my putting. I want to gain strokes on the field every time I roll the ball. |
Your dream foursome |
Michelle Wie, Dustin Johnson, and Linus Lilliedahl |
What lessons can you apply from golf to real life? |
Discipline, emotional stability, and focusing on what is in front of you at this moment. |
What about golf drives you crazy? |
There’s never enough time in the day to perfect all the imperfect parts of my game |
What about golf keeps you coming back? |
The one shot where the ball was hit so solid, the wind blows the ball exactly as you planned it to, and you’re left with the perfectly positioned ball on the green that sets you up for an easy birdie. Then you look up at your family/team and they cheer. Those shots are what keeps me coming back! |
