One of the best modern-day dual athletes for Mizzou, Lyle was a top-level performer in both football and track for his home-state school. The Kansas City native starred on the gridiron as a defensive end from 1990-93 and left MU as the school’s career leader in quarterback sacks, with 18. He was also an outstanding student who was a two-time first-team academic all-Big Eight Conference selection. As a professional in the National Football League, he played for nine years (113 career games), with the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets and won a Super Bowl title in 2002 with the New England Patriots. On the Missouri track team, he earned NCAA all-America honors by placing 8th in the shot at the 1993 NCAA Outdoor Championships. He won the Big Eight shot put indoor title in 1991 and set the MU outdoor shot record of 61' 6 ¼" in 1993, a record that stood for eight years. Lyle was named MU’s most outstanding performer in track in both 1991 and 1993.
