Softball Falls to No. 22/20 LSU in Six Innings

The Tigers got run-ruled for the second time this season, as they move to 20-19, and 4-6 in SEC play.
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou softball (20-19, 4-6 SEC) fell 9-1 in six innings against LSU (25-12, 5-8 SEC) on Thursday, April 2, at Mizzou Softball Stadium.
Senior starting pitcher Cierra Harrison went 5.0 innings, allowing three runs and striking out four. Freshman Abby Carr extended her on-base streak to 18 games, as she hit a single in the sixth inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the top half of the first, LSU posted a run to take an early 1-0 lead. MU generated momentum in the bottom of the third with junior Claire Cahalan and freshman Addy Waits reaching base. However, the Tigers would go scoreless in the third frame.
The visitors would add to their lead in the fourth, creating a two-run advantage, 2-0. In the bottom of the fourth frame, a single by junior Abby Hay and a walk for sophomore Sophie Smith gave Missouri two runners on base, but MU was unable to capitalize.
With a runner on base, a two-run home run for LSU in the sixth extended the Tigers' lead to four. LSU would continue the momentum, hitting a second two-run home run in the sixth, scoring seven runs in the frame to take a nine-run lead.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, a walk for freshman Gracie Britton would put MU on the board 9-1.
GAME NOTES
- Larissa Anderson moves to 392-237-1 all-time and 6-8 against LSU.
- The Tigers are 14-20 all-time against LSU
- Claire Cahalan extends her hitting streak to four games following a single in the third inning.
- Abby Carr has now reached base safely in 18 games straight and extends her hitting streak to seven consecutive contests.
- Stefania Abruscato has reached base safely in ten consecutive games.
