COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou softball (28-28, 9-15 SEC) secured a win in the regular season finale against No. 8/9 Tennessee (42-9, 16-8 SEC) 4-3 on Saturday, May 2, at Mizzou Softball Stadium.
Head coach Larissa Anderson secured her 400th career win, as junior Abby Hay secured her 100th career hit, hitting a home run in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman Abby Carr got the win - her sixth of the season - and pushed across the winning runs with a single in the bottom of the sixth.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tennessee struck first in the opening inning, capitalizing on an early double to take a 1–0 lead. Missouri threatened to respond in the bottom half, putting runners on second and third, but couldn't convert.
The Tigers came within inches of tying the game on a deep fly ball that just missed clearing the fence in the bottom of the third. The Lady Vols extended their lead after the scare with a home run to left, making it 2-0.
Mizzou broke through in the bottom of the fourth when freshman Linny Ramsey took advantage of a wild pitch to score and cut the deficit in half.
In the circle, senior Cierra Harris provided a strong outing, tossing four innings while allowing just two runs and striking out three. Junior Marissa McCann took over in the fifth, facing seven batters and recording two strikeouts, while allowing one earned run.
In the bottom of the fifth, Abby Hay delivered a key moment for Missouri, launching a home run to left field to tie the game, while also recording her 100th career hit as a Tiger.
Tennessee regained the lead with a single to left, bringing home the runner from third to make it 3–2 after the top half of the sixth.
Missouri responded late in the sixth inning, taking control when Abby Carr ripped a ball down the right field line for an RBI single, driving in junior Claire Cahalan. Junior Stefania Abruscato would record the go-ahead run as an error by the Lady Vols outfielder allowed her to score.
