
Men's Swimming Gets Season Underway

The University of Missouri swimming and diving team kicked off its season on Friday, October 15 at University Natatorium in Columbia, Mo. competing against each other. The Tigers had their annual Black and Gold meet with the Black team defeating the gold team 124-84.
The men had a fine day with several swimmers turning in outstanding performances for the first competition of the season. Junior Aaron Lo left picked up right where he left off at the end of the 1999 season claiming two individual wins in the 50 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke for the Gold team.
Fellow junior Mike Cervenka got the Black team started off with a win in the 500 freestyle. Immediately following the 500 free, Cervenka swam the 200 freestyle finishing third. Cervenka also swam the lead off leg of the Black team's winning 400 freestyle relay. Sophomore Andy Cole also made his presence felt in the Black team's line-up as he claimed two individual victories. Cole won the 200 individual medley and the100 backstroke for the men in black.
The other standout for the Black team was freshman standout Radu Miclaus. The freshman sensation set the only meet record on the men's side en-route to claiming the 100 butterfly victory. Miclaus was also victorious in the 200 freestyle as well as anchoring the winning 400 freestyle relay.
The Tigers next competition is the Big 12 meet in Ames, Iowa on Friday, October 22. The six teams from the Big 12 Conference get together to have a little fun swimming events and relays that they normally do not get a chance to compete in during the regular season. Following the Big 12 meet, Missouri heads back to Ames, Iowa to dual with the Cyclones on Friday, October 29 kicking off their regular season.
