
Tigers Continue to Roll in Hoosier State

COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Missouri swimming and diving teams remain in excellent shape following day two of the Indiana Invite on the campus of Indiana University. The Missouri women, unranked in the country, continued to dominate the field with 824.5 points at the end of the second day of competition. The men are in second place with 760 points, just 74 points behind the leader, Indiana, at 834 points.
The women will take a 197-point lead into Sunday over 27th ranked Indiana and 18th ranked Tennessee. The Tigers received two first place finishes on the evening. Freshman Leslie Hoh won the 400 individual medley in a time of 4 minutes, 53.24 seconds, a NCAA provisional cut time. The Tigers also took third and fourth place in the event by Tawney Larm and Kara Bramer respectively.
The other Tiger winner was senior Rikki Janes in the 100 backstroke. Janes won the event in a time of 1 minute, 4.43 seconds. Janes also took second place in the 100 butterfly while Cristina Souza took fourth.
Missouri also tallied big points in the 200 freestyle event. Sophomore Molly Vetter finished in second place while freshman Katy Chandler took third.
The Mizzou men are in striking distance of the 25th ranked Indiana Hoosiers heading into the final day. Freshman Radu Miclaus enjoyed a very successful day by winning the 100 butterfly in a time of 55.63 seconds. Miclaus also finished in third place in the 100 backstroke in a time of 57.26 seconds.
The Tigers closed the gap on the Hoosiers thanks to a tremendous race in the 100 butterfly. Missouri took first, second and third places with Shane Whilden and Brendan Smith following Miclaus at the wall.
Freshman Matt Ferrarelli also picked up a win for Missouri in the 400 individual medley. His time was a very impressive 4 minutes, 25.87 seconds. Senior Randy Swift placed fifth in the event for the Tigers.
Junior Aaron Lo earned his second Canadian Olympic Trial cut of the week in the 100 breaststroke. The Whitby, Ontario native placed third in a time of 1 minute, 4.26 seconds. Lo won the 50 freestyle last night and earned an Olympic Trial cut in that event as well.
