Men's Golf Finishes 11th at Michigan State Tournament

East Lansing, Mich. - The University of Missouri men's golf team finished 11th at the 2001 Bruce Fossum/TeamGearOnline.com Invitational, which wrapped up Sunday at Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich. The Tigers recorded a three-round team total of 886 in the two-day event, and finished just nine strokes out of fifth place. The tournament serves as MU's final regular-season competition, and the team will have to wait until Tuesday, May 8th to learn if they will receive a regional bid for the NCAA Tournament.
Junior Mark McBride strengthened his bid for an individual regional bid should the team not advance, as he tied for seventh in the tournament with a three-round total of 215. After opening with rounds of 74 and 72, McBride closed Sunday with a two-under par 69 to notch his first top-10 finish of the spring. He now has three top-10 finishes on the season, and eight total top-25 finishes.
Freshman Brandon Knaub and senior Tom Vogt were next among Missouri competitors, as they tied for 27th place. Knaub shot rounds of 71-75-75 for a three-round total of 221, while Vogt started strong with consecutive even-par rounds of 71 on Saturday, but finished with an eight-over 79 to slip in the standings. Vogt's previous career-low single round was a 72 before Saturday.
Freshman Mike Radek finished in a three-way tie for 63rd place among individuals with a three-round total of 229, while junior Chris Happ tied for 71st with a 235 total.
