COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou men's swimming team completed action at the two-day Tiger Invite on Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. The meet is the Tigers' final competition until the 2015 Southeastern Conference Championships, Feb. 17-21, in Auburn, Ala.
Senior Sam Tierney paced Missouri with four individual wins over the two days, with victories in the 100 (52.17) and 200 (1:53.18) breast, 100 back (48.07) and 200 IM (1:46.39). Both Tierney's 100 back and 200 IM times were season bests, while his breast times were not far off his tapered times from November's Mizzou Invite.
Senior Andrew Phillips and sophomore Carter Griffin were doubles winners as well. Phillips claimed top honors in the 200 fly (1:45.53) and 200 free (1:38.06), while Griffin won the 200 back (1:44.30) and 500 free (personal best 4:24.05).
In the 50 free, sophomore Michael Chadwick smoked the field with a career best 19.76, a time that puts him fourth all-time at Mizzou in the event.
Sophomores Nick Davis and Martin Wallace were also victorious during the competition. Davis won the meet's first event, the 1650 free, with a time of 15:46.84, while Wallace won the 100 fly in 48.53.
A pair of freshmen rounded out Missouri's winners. Jordy Groters took home the win in the 100 free in a time of 45.35 and Carter Wallace claimed first in the 400 IM in 3:59.75.
Junior Dillon Love swam personal best times in to take second in both backstroke races. He clocked a 1:44.99 in the 200 back to move himself into fifth-place all-time at Mizzou, while also posting a time of 48.14 in the 100 back.
