Tigers playing in Jonesborough, Tenn., Friday-Sunday
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Men's Golf is set to compete in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate from Friday, Oct. 9-Sunday, Oct. 11, in Jonesborough, Tenn. The Tigers are looking to notch their second tournament win on the young 2015-16 season.
Head coach Mark Leroux's Tigers most recently finished eighth at The Jackrabbit Invitational (Sept. 26-28). Competition will take place on the par 72, 7,147-yard course at the Blackthorn Club, where Mizzou will once again face some of the nation's strongest programs, including two of GolfWeek's Top 25 teams, Virginia [15] and Penn State [21]. Other schools competing include host ETSU [29], Furman, Coastal Carolina, UNC Wilmington, Virginia Tech, Charlotte, Louisville, Kent State, Tennessee, Villanova, VCU and East Carolina.
Leading the Tigers into their third event of the season is redshirt senior Wilson Sundvold (Columbia, Mo.), who has started every competition for Mizzou, to date. His performances at the Turning Stone Intercollegiate (69-68-76) and the Jackrabbit Invitational (79-73-74) have both been misleading; Sundvold's overall scores would be drastically lower if not for one low round per tournament. The Columbia native will have the opportunity to best his two previous tournaments with a strong showing this weekend.
Next in the lineup for Mizzou is junior Linus Lilliedahl (Sandwiken, Sweden). He debuted for the Tigers at The Jackrabbit, and played a solid tournament. Lilliedahl showed off his talent in his 2015-16 debut, shooting the best round posted by any Tiger golfer this season, while also shooting the only round under par.
Junior Euan Walker (Troon, Scotland) will hold down the third spot in the Tigers' lineup at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate after rebounding nicely at The Jackrabbit Invitational. He shot rounds of 74-74-73, which showcased his consistency and earned him a spot atop Mizzou's best finishers.
Sophomore Hayden Buckley (Belden, Miss), who has paced Mizzou's golfers at both the Turning Stone Intercollegiate (72-73-68) and The Jackrabbit (73-76-72), is fourth in the lineup. His consistency has been important, and his potential has been front and center for the Tigers this season.
Claiming the last spot in the travelling lineup is freshman Matt Echelmeier (Columbia, Mo.), who will be competing in his second event of the season. At the Turning Stone Intercollegiate, the younger of the Echelmeir brothers finished tied for 18th, shooting rounds of 72-73-76.
