Tigers saw improvement each day over three-day stretch in Hoover, Ala.
HOOVER, Ala. – Mizzou Women's Golf completed its run at the 2017 SEC Championships on Sunday afternoon, tallying a weekend-low round of 292. The Tigers finished with an 889 (302-295-292) total team score this weekend, as they improved collectively over each round. Mizzou placed 12th out of 14 in the final team standings.
"I'm really proud of our effort and attitude today," head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. "We started our final round in a solid rain fall, but we were excited to play and give it our all. We had a fabulous back nine today where each of our five players finished under par. Jess (Yuen) again was poised today in her final round to finish 2-under overall."
The Tigers' 889 collective score marked their lowest team total in their five-year history at the SEC Championships. Mizzou's previous 54-hole low at SEC's occurred in 2016, as that year's group produced an even 900.
Freshman Jessica Yuen (Bolingbrook, Ill.) led the way individually for Mizzou, shooting a 2-under (214: 76-68-70) tournament this weekend. Yuen's top stretch occurred on Saturday, as she fired a brilliant 4-under (68) second round. The Bolingbrook, Ill., native has enjoyed a fantastic first-year campaign, highlighted by her fourth tournament this season with an even par or better weekend. Yuen tied for 17th overall among all individual competitors.
Additionally, Yuen's 214 total score this weekend at Greystone Golf and Country Club marked her lowest 54-hole stretch this year. It surpassed her previous top score of 216, which was previously established twice earlier this season. Yuen's 14 total birdies at this year's SEC's marked the second-most among all competitors.
Junior Clara Young (North Berwick, Scotland) and senior Jessica Meek (Carnoustie, Scotland) finished second and third individually this weekend for Mizzou, respectively. Young tallied a 225 (77-74-74) total score, while Meek produced a 226 (74-78-74) effort on the course. Meek was particularly effective on par fives this weekend, recording an outstanding 6-under score on the respective holes.
Up next across the country will be NCAA Regional Championships at various locations. Mizzou hopes to qualify individual competitors for this year's Regionals with an announcement scheduled later this week.
