COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Track & Field returns to action for the indoor season as the Tigers host the Missouri Intercollegiate on Friday, Jan. 11. Mizzou will have 53 athletes in action Friday, including three school record holders.
Field events will begin the meet at 11:30 a.m. (CT), while track events are slated to begin at 1 p.m. (CT) and will continue with a rolling schedule. Five teams will be competition on Friday, as Mizzou will be joined by Avila, Columbia College, Lincoln and Western Illinois.
Mizzou will have numerous notables competing in field events Friday, including redshirt sophomore Ja'Mari Ward (Cahokia, Ill.) in the long jump, freshman Roberto Vilches (Mexico City, Mexico) in the high jump and redshirt senior Avery Carter (Lee's Summit, Mo.) in the weight throw on the men's side. Ward is the current school record holder in the men's long jump with a mark of 7.97m (26-1.75) and earned All-America honors a season ago with a fifth place finish in the long jump at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships. Vilches will be in competition in the high jump for the second time as a Tiger, after joining the program with the top U20 high jump mark in the world, as he cleared 2.26m (7-4.75) at an April 2018 meet in Mexico. Carter enters the meet with the ninth-best weight throw mark in the country, as Carter set a personal record with a throw of 20.17m (66-2.25) at the Missouri Holiday Opener (Dec. 8).
For the women, notable entries include redshirt junior Jordan McClendon (Black Jack, Mo.) in the weight throw, senior Valeria Kostiuk (Kiev, Ukraine) in the high jump and freshman Arianna Fisher (San Jose, Calif.) in the triple jump. Kostiuk are the school record holders in their respective events with marks of 1.83m (6-0) and 12.68m (41-7.25), respectively, while McClendon set the third-best mark in program history in the weight throw at the Missouri Holiday Opener with a throw of 20.03m (65-8.75). Fisher's mark is ranked seventh in the NCAA this season, while McClendon's mark ranks 14th.
Mizzou's entries in track events will be highlighted by a pair of Tigers who currently own program top-10 marks in the events they will be competing in. Senior Maya Cody (St. Louis, Mo.) will run in the 60m dash, and currently has the No. 2 time at 7.36, while redshirt freshman Jayson Ashford (Fairview Heights, Ill.) will run in the 200m dash after setting the ninth-best time at 21.60.
