Five student-athletes will compete on Friday and Saturday
Fayetteville, Ark. — Mizzou Track and Field will begin competition at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday, March 12 in Fayetteville, Arkansas and wrap up the meet on Saturday, March 13. With the meet, the Tigers will wrap up the 2021 indoor season before preparing for outdoors. The meet will be streamed live on ESPN3 daily and a tape-delay broadcast will be aired on Sunday on ESPNU.
Two weekends ago, Mizzou kicked off postseason competition with the SEC Indoor Championships. Junior Arianna Fisher (San Jose, Calif.) led the way, capturing the silver medal in the women's triple jump, as 11 other Tigers notched top-10 finishes.
Following the SEC competition, five Tigers managed to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Along with Fisher, Ja'Mari Ward (Cahokia, Ill.), Chris Conrad (O'Fallon, Ill.), Georgi Nachev (Yambol, Bulgaria) and Euphenie Andre (Dover Plains, N.Y.) also punched their tickets.
Ward is set to begin competition for Mizzou in the men's long jump. A three-time All-American and school record holder in the event, Ward holds the eighth best long jump mark nationally, which he set two weekends ago at the SEC Championships with a leap of 7.93m (26-0.25). He finished sixth in the stacked field of competitors, which featured seven out of the top-10 jumpers in the nation. Ward has racked up countless accolades in his time in the Black and Gold, having qualified for the NCAA Championships four times. He most recently finished eighth at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships.
On the women's side, Fisher will lead Mizzou's group of triple jumpers. Two weekends ago, Fisher broke her own school record and captured the silver medal at the SEC Championships with a leap of 13.47m (44-2.50) in the triple jump. Her mark ranks 10th nationally and she is making her first NCAA appearance.
Alongside Fisher, Andre will also make her NCAA debut in the women's triple jump. In her short time at Mizzou, Andre has made her mark, as she currently holds the second best jump in school history with a mark of 13.21m (43-4.25), which she also set at the SEC Championships. Andre secured a fourth place finish in the meet and holds the 16th best mark in the country.
Nachev is set to compete in the men's triple jump. He holds the 15th best mark in the nation in the event with his season best jump of 16.07m (52-8.75) that he set at the SEC Championships, on his way to securing a sixth place finish. Nachev will be competing in his second NCAA Championships, having previously taken part in the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
On the track, Conrad will run in the men's 800m. At the Cyclone Invitational earlier in the season, Conrad ran a 1:48.45, pushing him into the nationally ranks. With his time, he holds the 12th best time in the nation and fifth best time in school history. Conrad has competed previously in the NCAA West preliminary meet, but will also make his championship debut.
The Tigers will kick off competition in the NCAA Indoor Championships at 2:00 p.m. CT on Friday afternoon, as Ward is set to compete in the men's long jump. Conrad will also compete in the 800m semifinal run on Friday, scheduled for 2:55 p.m.
Mizzou's triple jump squad will be in action on the final day of the competition. Nachev will begin the day at 1:00 p.m. CT in the men's long jump. Fisher and Andre will follow in the women's triple jump at 5:00 p.m. CT.
Following the NCAA Indoor Championships, Mizzou will send both Kieran Wood (Cambridge, England) and Sarah Chapman (Maidenhead, England) to the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Monday, March 15 in Stillwater, Okla. The Tigers then shift their focus to the outdoor track & field season, beginning at home with the Mizzou Spring Opener on March 19 and 20.
