
Tennis Prepares to Host No. 10 Georgia & No. 29 Tennessee This Weekend

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri Tigers (6-14, 1-6 SEC) return home to host their second round of SEC matches this weekend. On Friday, Mizzou will compete against No. 10 Georgia (10-3, 6-1 SEC) and on Sunday, No. 29 Tennessee (9-6, 3-4 SEC).
Mizzou in Alabama
Last weekend, the Tigers traveled to Alabama to play two ranked teams in No. 8 Auburn and No. 38 Alabama. Between the two matches, Missouri was slated against one ITA ranked doubles pair and five ITA ranked singles players. Gabriela Martinez was responsible for the team's sole point against Alabama, taking down Anne Marie Hiser, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. In the match against Auburn, Emelie Schwarte scored for Mizzou, beating Adeline Flach, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
Inspecting the Opponents
No. 10 Georgia has gone up and down in the rankings, reaching as high as No. 3 earlier in the year and as low as No. 36 at the beginning of March. The Bulldogs have played 11 ranked opponents and defeated all except three of them, with the most recent loss coming against No. 12 Texas A&M, 0-7. In the March 23 ITA Rankings, five singles slots belong to Georgia (No. 21 Mell Reasco, No. 27 Lea Ma, No. 40 Dasha Vidmanova, No. 71 Meg Kowalski, and No. 117 Ania Hertel). In doubles, Morgan Coppoc and Ania Hertel hold the No. 12 spot, Mell Reasco and Dasha Vidmanova are slated at No. 47, and Guillermina Grant and Mell Reasco are tied for the No. 71 slot.
No. 29 Tennessee has seven ranked wins with the most recent being against No. 61 LSU, 7-0. The Volunteers are 3-4 in conference play, and control five slots in the March 23 ITA Rankings. Tenika McGiffin holds the No. 37 position, Rebeka Mertena sits at No. 44, and Elza Tomase is ranked No. 88 in singles. As for doubles rankings, Daria Kuczer and Tenika McGiffin are slated No. 13 and Esther Adeshina and Elza Tomase rank No. 59.
