Soccer Falls to LSU, Awaits Postseason Fate

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri soccer fell 1-0 to LSU to conclude the 2024 regular season on Sunday afternoon at Audrey J. Walton Soccer Stadium.
Missouri must await the result of Tennessee and Florida on Wednesday to decide if they can secure a spot in the 2024 SEC tournament. Mizzou earns a spot with a Florida victory.
LSU scored the pivotal goal in the contest in the 68th minute.
The Black and Gold entered the battle with tenacity as both offense and defense worked together to gain possession of the ball against LSU early in the contest.
In the seventh minute, senior Milana Fischer drove the ball to the left corner of the box and dished it to sophomore Brianna Buels who fired a shot that narrowly cleared the crossbar.
Ten minutes later it was Buels directing a pass to the top of the box for junior Keegan Good who fired a shot aimed at the middle of the goal. The attempt was corralled by the LSU keeper.
In the 29th minute, senior Leah Selm guided a pass to junior Bella Carillo who dribbled and battled up the right side of the box and sent a shot directed one goal that was saved.
LSU had its first offensive look in the 34th minute as the attack struck a shot that slammed into the crossbar. The ball bounced down on the goal line and was rescued out of the box by sophomore Shania Spriggs.
With the save and clearance by Spriggs, the contest remained scoreless at the half.
Mizzou kept the pressure on early in the second half, starting in the 56th minute when Buels powered a shot at the bottom center of the net.
Three minutes later, freshman Emily Derucki extended a corner kick to freshman Landis Canada. After establishing control, Canada's shot deflected off the LSU goalkeeper's dive in the left corner of the box to push wide.
Despite the offensive pressure, seven minutes later LSU was able to break the tie.
Mizzou fought hard for the equalizer as junior Jessica Larson lofted a wide shot in the 73rd minute that glanced over the crossbar.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kate Phillips made a diving save in the middle of the goal to deny LSU's attempt before it was cleared by Mizzou's backline in the 79th minute.
Late in the contest, Fischer struck up a corner kick that bounced loose before Buels earned possession and fired a shot into the bottom center of the goal. The attempt was once again saved by the LSU goalkeeper.

Missouri will await the result of the Tennessee and Florida on Wednesday to determine their eligibility in the SEC tournament. Mizzou will earn a bid with a Florida win. The tournament will begin on Nov. 3 in Pensacola, Florida.
