Led by 27 points from junior guard Grace Slaughter, Mizzou women's basketball defeated Tulane 77-69 on Thursday night at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Slaughter went 12-of-12 at the free-throw line, added six assists, five rebounds and two steals to round out her statline.
With the effort at the charity stripe, Slaughter tied Lisa Plummer, Tracy Ellis, Cierra Porter and Hayley Frank as the only Tigers in program history to convert 100 percent at the line with 10 or more attempts.
Junior guard Shannon Dowell contributed 10 points and 12 rebounds. The junior recorded her 1,000-career point with a bucket in the fourth quarter.
Junior guard Abbey Schreacke added 13 points behind four 3-pointers to go along with two assists.
Junior guard Lisa Thompson recorded 10 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Redshirt-senior guard Jayla Smith added 10 points, three rebounds and two steals to aid the effort.
Exchanging baskets early in the contest, the Tigers faced a five-point deficit before Slaughter and Schreacke buried consecutive 3-pointers midway through the frame as part of a larger 8-0 run that gave Mizzou a three-point lead.
A triple in transition by Smith gave the Tigers a 22-15 advantage after one.
Tulane battled back in the second and took a two-point lead before Slaughter connected on a 3-pointer from the logo. The Green Wave continued to attack and led by three before Jordana Reisma scored in the post and Chloe Sotell nailed a triple in the final minute to give Mizzou a 33-31 lead at the break.
Missouri's offense was in sync to begin the second half. A quick triple by Schreacke and a layup in transition by Dowell sparked a 13-3 Mizzou run that was capped off by another 3-pointer from Schreacke. The Tigers led by 12 following the scoring run.
Mizzou continued to roll throughout the entirety of the third as it outscored Tulane 22-13 in the period to take a 55-44 lead. Schreacke led the charge with seven in the quarter while Slaughter notched six of her final scoring total.
The Tigers maintained their advantage in a fast-paced fourth frame. Tulane chipped into the advantage with a six-point run in the heart of the frame and eventually cut the lead to four, but Mizzou clamped down and closed the contest at the free-throw line.
