Mizzou Sends Six to Finals of NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri track and field program will have six student-athletes represent the program and compete for national titles in their respective events at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, from June 11 to 14.
The Tigers will be represented by Valentina Barrios (women's javelin), Alicia Burnett (women's 100m), Skylar Coffey (men's discus), Claudina Diaz (women's high jump), Kristi Perez-Snyman (women's high jump) and Callan Saldutto (men's javelin).
Saldutto opens action for Mizzou on Wednesday, June 11 at 7:15 p.m. CT. Barrio's javelin finals and Burnett's 100m semifinals are set for Thursday at 7:15 p.m. and 7:25 p.m., respectively. Missouri closes out the season with Coffey's discus finals on Friday at 4:15 p.m. and Diaz and Perez-Snyman's high jump finals on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Should Burnett advance to the 100m finals, she would compete for a national championship on Saturday at 8:52 p.m. The Tigers are seeking their first national championship in all five events in program history.
THE COMPETITORS
Senior Saldutto was the first to secure his trip to the national stage, placing ninth at the first round of the NCAA Championships in the men's javelin with a throw of 69.17m (226-11) to continue his streak of throws over 69 meters. On day two, junior Valentina Barrios followed with a fifth-place finish in the women's javelin, tossing 56.71m (186-0) to lock in her return to Eugene and continue building on her Southeastern Conference Championship performance.
Missouri added three more qualifiers in the final two days of competition. Senior Coffey earned his spot in the men's discus with a personal-best throw of 58.93m (193-4) to finish ninth overall. In the women's high jump, Diaz and Perez-Snyman both cleared 1.84m (6-0.5) to place fifth and seventh, respectively, and secure their place in the final meet. Sprinter Burnett rounded out Mizzou's group of national qualifiers by advancing to the 100m semifinal with a time of 11.10—lowering her school record in the process.
TOP TIGERS
Mizzou is led in the individual event rankings by Perez-Snyman, whose mark of 1.90m (6-2.75) in the high jump at the SEC Outdoor Championships stands third in the country. Sixth-ranked Barrios joins her in the javelin (58.20m/190-11) and Diaz slots in at No. 12 in the high jump (1.85m/6-0.75). Burnett rounds out the rankings for the women at No. 21 in the 100m with a time of 11.10.
On the men's side, Saldutto ranks 14th in the javelin (72.52m/237-11), with Coffey at No. 28 in discus at 58.93m (193-4).
MIZZOU IN THE EVENT RANKINGS
Heading into the final NCAA Outdoor Championships meet, seven of the Tigers' event squads are represented in the top 25 of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings, with the women's team at No. 34 in the country. The team is headlined by the third-ranked women's javelin squad. Individually, seven of the eight student-athletes who competed in the event this season rank in the top 125 nationally, with two in the top 50. Women's javelin is joined in the top 10 by the sixth-ranked men's discus team.
LAST TIME AT THE NCAA OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Missouri saw multiple standout performances and record-breaking efforts at the 2024 national championship meet. Kelsey Schweizer delivered a historic run in the 800m, breaking the school record with a time of 2:02.39 to surpass the previous mark set in 2000. The senior's performance earned her a spot as a second-team All-American. In the field events, Skylar Ciccolini had a season-best throw of 55.06m (180-8) in the javelin, earning sixth place overall and securing first-team All-America honors for the second-straight year.
Missouri's success continued into day three as Mitch Weber and Sterling Scott added to the program's All-America total. Weber earned first-team All-America status with a fourth-place finish in men's discus, recording a mark of 60.85m (199-7) for his best performance at nationals. Scott capped off a breakout season by finishing 14th in the triple jump with a leap of 15.80m (51-10), earning him second-team All-America recognition.
