Women's Basketball Falls to Auburn

Mizzou women's basketball dropped a contest to Auburn 71-58 on Thursday evening in Mizzou Arena.
Junior guard Grace Slaughter led Mizzou (16-12, 4-9 SEC) with 19 points, five rebounds, and one assist.
Senior forward Jordana Reisma contributed 10 points, a team-high seven boards, and dished a trio of assists.
Junior guard Shannon Dowell recorded seven points and four rebounds.
Slaughter scored four early points following the opening tip, but Auburn (14-13, 3-10 SEC) held a slim lead after five minutes of action.
Dowell went coast to coast and scored an acrobatic layup in the final minute. Despite the bucket, Auburn led 18-8 at the end of the first quarter.
Slaughter continued her scoring pace with nine points in a five-minute span to begin the second frame. Auburn matched the effort on the offensive end and maintained an advantage.
Sophomore guard Chloe Sotell and redshirt freshman guard Ma'Riya Vincent buried a pair of 3-pointers in the final minutes, but Missouri faced a 37-27 deficit headed into the locker room.
Auburn continued to be efficient on the offensive end and grew the lead after the break. Mizzou battled back with a quick 7-2 run sparked by a Slaughter layup and accelerated by a triple from Reisma.
As time expired in the third, junior guard Abbey Schreacke nailed a last-second 3-pointer to cut the visitors' advantage to 12 as Auburn led 60-48 headed into the fourth. The make was the second of the quarter for Schreacke, who led Missouri with six points in the period.
Early in the final frame, Mizzou utilized a layup by Reisma and a pair of conversions at the free-throw line and brought the contest within 10.
The late surge was not enough as Auburn held on for the victory.
Mizzou shot 57.1 percent from the field in the game as opposed to Auburn's 37.7 percent.
