After posting his first collegiate top-20, Reese Roberts of the Mizzou men's golf team was honored with SEC Freshman of the Week accolades.
Roberts led Mizzou by placing 17th of 90 golfers at the Michael A. Marino Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. this week. He finished under par for the first time in his collegiate career, posting a personal-best 215 (69-74-72). After an opening round of 69 – his first collegiate sub-70 round – he finished strong to secure his first under-par total for a tournament, finishing at -2 over the final six holes to end in the red.
Overall, Roberts carded 10 birdies over the 54-hole tournament, leading Mizzou in scoring for the first time in eight events this season.
During his rookie campaign, Roberts owns a stroke average of 74.42. He is the first Tiger to earn SEC Freshman of the Week honors since Trent Mierl did so twice last year.
Roberts and the Tigers return to action this weekend, opening play at The Hootie at Bulls Bay on Sunday.
