GREENVILLE, S.C. – Mizzou women's basketball fell to Alabama 65-48 in the first round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament on Wednesday night in Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
Senior forward Jordana Reisma guided Mizzou's (16-16, 4-12 SEC) offensive effort with 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting and added five rebounds to her stat line.
Junior guard Grace Slaughter notched her seventh double-double of the season, finishing with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Junior guard Abbey Schreacke and sophomore guard Chloe Sotell registered a pair of six-point performances to round out the Tigers' top scorers.
Three minutes into the contest, Sotell put the Tigers on the board with a 3-pointer from the wing. Slaughter followed with a fast-break layup and then converted a free throw after an offensive rebound, capping a 6–0 run that pulled Mizzou even with Alabama (22-9, 7-9 SEC) after an early deficit.
With nearly a minute remaining in the first quarter, Schreacke knocked down three free throws after drawing a foul from beyond the arc to give the Tigers their first lead, 9-8. A late run gave Alabama a 13-9 advantage at the end of the opening frame.
Reisma got to work in the paint, tossing in back-to-back layups as Mizzou trailed by five nearly halfway through the second quarter.
As the frame came to a close, Schreake connected on her first 3-pointer of the night to stop an Alabama run. The Crimson Tide led 31-20 entering the break.
Sotell opened the second half the same way she began the first, knocking down a 3-pointer that sparked a 13–2 run. During the surge, Reisma poured in seven straight points for the Tigers, including a 3-pointer, as Mizzou battled back to tie the game at 33–33 midway through the quarter.
The two teams battled through the remainder of the period, as Alabama took a slight 41-37 advantage heading into the final quarter.
Despite Slaughter scoring five points in the final quarter to extend her streak of double-digit points in every game this season, Alabama controlled most of the fourth and pulled away for the win.
