The Tigers are now 7-15 this season, as they are 0-3 in extra-inning games.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Mizzou softball (7-15, 0-2 SEC) dropped game two – of the three-part series - in 11 innings, as Florida (25-1, 2-0 SEC) won via a walk-off single, 4-3, on Sunday, March 7, at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
The Tigers now move to 7-15, 0-3 in extra-inning games, and 3-4 against ranked teams.
MU escaped danger right from the get-go, as starting pitcher RHP Cierra Harrison walked and hit back-to-back batters. However, through a pair of defensive efforts, including a diving catch with bases loaded and two outs from senior Kayley Lenger, the Gators were held scoreless in the first. However, the defense would give a little in the next inning, as an error helped Florida plate two runs in the bottom half.
The Tigers responded by besting their season high for home runs in a game in the third inning, as Lenger (2), freshman Sidney Forrester (5), and junior Abby Hay (3) recorded solo shots. Forrester and Hay are the first pairing to hit back-to-back home runs for the Tigers this season.
Harrison exited the game in the fifth, as she allowed two runs – both unearned – and two hits. In relief, freshman Abby Carr took the mound and maintained the lead all the way to the seventh.
Florida opened the seventh inning with a leadoff home run to tie the game, 3-3. With two outs and a runner on second and third, Carr came up with the strikeout to push this one into extra innings.
Both offenses would go cold once we head into extras, until former Tiger Madison Walker hit a single in the bottom of the 11th to give Florida the victory, 4-3.
