COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Mizzou men's basketball team is off to a strong start during the spring portal season, inking a top-50 transfer in the country and one of the nation's top freshmen this past season in Jamier Jones from Providence.
One of five players named to the 2025-26 Big East All-Freshman Team, Jones is ranked as high as the nation's No. 40 player in the transfer portal by 247Sports and also places in the top 50 by ESPN, Field of 68 and On3.
"We're excited to add Jamier to our family after a tremendous freshman season at Providence," said Whitten Family Head Coach Dennis Gates. "We've already seen him improve a lot in one year at the Power 5 level and know that he will continue to reach new heights within our system, which really fits his playing style. He is a jack of all trades that can shine in multiple ways. His addition adds tremendous size to our roster and he is a punishing downhill player that can play on both ends of the court."
As a true freshman with the Friars last season, Jones tallied 11.9 points per game – shooting 57.0 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from 3-point range. He also added 4.5 rebounds per game in addition to 42 assists and 27 steals in 31 contests. Overall, Jones was one of just 11 freshmen in the country to average 10 points and four rebounds, while shooting at least 55 percent during the 2025-26 campaign.
A 6-foot-6 wing from Sarasota, Florida, Jones scored in double figures in 21 contests in his one year at Providence. He tallied a season-best 23 points against Villanova, while also adding 20 at eventual national runner-up UConn in January. Overall, he raised his output in Big East play, averaging 13.6 points in regular-season conference games.
Jones joined the Friars as a top-50 recruit in the nation, placing as high as No. 37 by On3. He tallied 20.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.2 steals during his senior campaign at Oak Ridge High School, while also leading the Pioneers to the Florida State Championship Game as a junior and No. 7 national ranking.
Jones joins a Mizzou program that is coming off back-to-back NCAA Tournament bids and double-digit SEC-win campaigns for the first time since joining the conference in 2012. The Tigers also add the nation's No. 4 freshman class for the 2026-27 season.
