COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou softball (24-24, 7-11 SEC) dropped the third game against No. 25 South Carolina (26-21, 5-13 SEC) 4-0 on Sunday, April 19 at Mizzou Softball Stadium.
Senior Cierra Harrison picked up the loss, after throwing 4.1 innings, and striking out three batters. The starter is now 9-8 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
South Carolina took a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the second, but back-to-back strikeouts from Harrison held the deficit at one.
In the bottom of the second, the Tigers loaded the bases with a walk and singles from freshman Sidney Forrester and sophomore Madison Uptegrove. However, no runs were scored as two strikeouts closed the inning.
The game remained at 1-0 through the fourth. Mizzou threatened in the fourth with Freshman Linny Ramsey reaching second base. However she got tagged out trying to advance to third on a groundout.
Junior Marissa McCann took the mound for Harrison in the fifth. South Carolina increased their lead with a two-run homer, before another home run was hit at the next at-bat, making the score 4-0.
Freshman Abby Carr replaced McCann in the circle, getting three quick outs in the sixth. Mizzou was unable to spark offensive momentum in the bottom half.
Despite two strikeouts from Carr in the seventh, the Gamecocks took the game 4-0.
