The Tigers were shutout for the fourth time in SEC play, as they dropped game one of the series.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Mizzou softball (25-25, 7-12 SEC) was shutout in Game One against Arkansas (38-8, 12-7 SEC) 4-0 on Friday, April 24 at Bogle Park.
Junior RHP Marissa McCann got the start after her perfect game and threw 3.1 innings allowing four runs in the loss, as she is now 9-9 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Razorbacks struck first in this one as McCann struggled to find the strike zone, walking the first two batters of the game. They would convert with both of those runners as two bloop singles and a sacrifice fly put them up 2-0. Arkansas added another one on its second-straight sacrifice fly – making it 3-0 – as McCann wrapped up the inning with a strikeout.
McCann found her rhythm in the next two innings, but was relieved in the bottom of the fourth, as she left bases loaded with one out. Senior RHP Courtney Donahue replaced her in the circle and limited the damage, as Arkansas only scored one on a groundout to the first baseman.
McCann finished her day going 3.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits.
Donahue ran into a little bit of trouble in the bottom of the sixth with runners on first and second with one out. The senior kept the Razorbacks offense at bay while she was in the circle, as she allowed just one hit in two innings. Freshman Abby Carr eliminated the threat in the sixth inning, as they headed to the seventh inning.
However, the Tiger's offense could not muster anything in the final inning, as they stranded seven and failed to reach third base in the 4-0 defeat.
