Junior Marissa McCann recorded the 13th perfect game in program history and first since 2022.
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou softball (25-24, 7-11 SEC) completed a perfect game in the 7-0 win against SIUE (22-25, 13-8 OVC) on Wednesday, April 22 at Mizzou Softball Stadium.
Junior Marissa McCann pitched a perfect game with 11 strikeouts, the first time since Laurin Krings went perfect against Bradley on March 6, 2022; this is also the 13th perfect game in program history.
This is the first time since 1991 that Missouri has completed a perfect game and a no-hitter against the same opponent in the same season, and the third time in program history.
"It almost made me want to tear up seeing the way my teammates ran out of the dugout and were so excited for me," McCann said. "I think that shows a lot about the closeness of this team and the way the coaches embraced me after, it means a lot to me."
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers got on the board first with an RBI single to center field from junior Abby Hay, driving in junior Stefania Abruscato - extending Hay's on-base streak to six games. Mizzou was aggressive with base running in the first, as two runners were thrown out at home, and it ended the inning with one run.
In the third, Abruscato hit her eighth home run of the season - second against SIUE, extending Mizzou's lead to 2-0.
Redshirt freshman Saniya Hill earned the start at second this one, and took advantage as she singled to score junior Claire Cahalan. Hill ended the game with a career-high in hits as she recorded three for the game.
The Tigers tallied three runs in the sixth, kick-started by freshman Abby Carr sending a single to right field, bringing in freshman Addy Waits. Hay crushed her seventh home run of the season to deep center field, driving in sophomore Haidyn Sokoloski as well.
In the seventh, McCann delivered two strikeouts to secure the 13th perfect game in program history.
