COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Mizzou swimming & diving program has hired Colin Zeng as the head diving coach, head coach Andrew Grevers announced on Tuesday, June 16.
"Colin is someone I've admired throughout his career, dating back to when we recruited him as an athlete. To see his growth from an elite competitor into a rising coach has been exciting, and we are thrilled to welcome him to Mizzou," Grevers said. "He understands what it takes to compete at the highest levels, but just as importantly, he cares deeply about helping student-athletes reach their potential. I'm confident Colin will elevate our diving program, strengthen our team culture, and help us chase championships together."
Zeng joins the Tigers, having spent last season as the head coach for diving at Brown. During his lone season with the Bears, he brought five divers to the NCAA Zone A Championship – three women and two men. During that span, he also led both the men's and women's teams to the highest finish in program history at the Ivy League Championships.
Before beginning his head coaching career, Zeng established his roots in the SEC as an assistant diving coach at Tennessee from 2023-25. During his stint in Knoxville, he slowly moved up the ladder, starting as a volunteer diving coach in 2021 and then as a graduate assistant from 2021-23.
He officially began his coaching career at Colorado Mesa, where he was the diving coach from 2020-21. There, he helped propel the team, as it scored the most diving points at the 2021 NCAA DII Championships.
As an athlete at Tennessee, Zeng was a three-time NCAA National Champion in 2016, 2018 and 2019 as well as a 10-time NCAA All-American from 2015-19. In 2018 and 2019, he was named the CSCAA Diver of the Year. In SEC competition, Zeng won the three-meter and platform events in 2019 and was named Diver of the Championships. He was the SEC Diver of the Year in 2018 and 2019.
Zeng graduated from the University of Tennessee with three degrees, earning his bachelor's degree in psychology in 2018. He later obtained his first master's degree in Kinesiology, with a specialization in Sport Psychology & Motor Behavior, in 2019, before completing his master's in sports management in 2023.
