Tigers Rule the Beam at Oklahoma

NORMAN, OKLA, ___ -- Junior Alison Akers tied her own school balance beam record and led the 23rd-ranked Missouri Tigers to the second highest beam score in school history in a three-way meet at Oklahoma on Sunday.
But Mizzou's lowest uneven bars score of the season doomed them to a second-place finish behind the No. 13 Oklahoma Sooners. Oklahoma scored 193.325 to MU's 192.15. Southern Utah finished third at 191.425.
Akers scored 9.875 on beam to tie the school record she set last season at home against Southeast Missouri State. MU teammates Shannon Brown, Jessica Haag and Amanda Peterson each scored 9.8 on beam and tied for third place. Mizzou's other counting score on beam was a 9.7 by Meggen Smiley.
Missouri, which had posted four of the top seven bars scores in school history this season, suffered a rash of falls, though, on Sunday. The Tigers scored just 46.6 on the event, and compared to Oklahoma's 48.8 on bars was enough to cost Mizzou the meet victory.
Tiger senior Jessica Haag won her fifth vaulting title of the year, and third in a row, scoring 9.775. That tied her with OU's Malia Carr for first place
Missouri (7-9) returns home this week to host the fifth annual Corvette Cup. Central Michigan, Iowa and Texas Woman's will be the visiting teams. The meet begins on Sunday at 2 p.m., and is preceded by a Corvette car show in the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse at 12 noon. Nearly 250 Corvettes are registered for the event.
