Tigers Place 4th at Big 12 Championships

AMES, IOWA -- The University of Missouri gymnastics team placed fourth Saturday night at the Big 12 Conference Championships in Ames, Iowa. It was the sixth straight year that MU placed fourth at the conference meet.
But most importantly for the Tigers, their score of 194.375 - Mizzou's second highest ever at a conference meet - improved their NCAA Regional Qualifying Score enough to solidify their fifth-place ranking in Region 3. That should qualify them for the regional championships which will be held April 1, in Tucson, Ariz. Official bids will be extended on Monday.
Missouri's RQS climbed to a school-record level of 194.185, just ahead of those of Illinois-Chicago (194.155) and Illinois (193.945).
"We counted no falls again, and did a good job all the way through," Head Coach Rob Drass said. "We wanted to see where we stood in the conference and do what was needed to qualify for Regionals and it appears that we did. We're a very happy gymnastics team right now."
No. 8 Iowa State was the upset winner at the meet scoring 196.775 to edge out the six-time defending champion Nebraska Cornhuskers (No. 5) who scored 196.75. No. 10 Oklahoma was third at 195.225. It was Iowa State's first gymnastics conference championship.
Missouri scored 49.0 on the uneven bars for the Tigers' highest bars score ever in a conference championship meet. The Tigers were led on that event by senior Shannon Brown, who scored 9.9. She was followed by freshmen Laura Anson (9.85) and and Jacqueline Coatsworth (9.8)
