
Men's Swimming & Diving Team Sweeps Illini Fall Classic

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The men's swimming and diving team traveled to Champaign, Illinois with intentions on sweeping all their dual meets at the Fall Illini Classic at IMPE Pool. Mission accomplished. The men's team defeated Michigan State 177-122 and Southern Illinois 158.5-140.5, their dual meet record improves to 2-1.
The men's team had some impressive individual showings, especially from the diving team. Two Tiger divers qualified for the NCAA Zones. Freshman Evan Watters placed first in the 1-meter (295.25) and senior Jamie Sweeney won the 3-meter (315.60), both will represent Missouri at the NCAA Zones. The diving team finished 1-2-3 in the 3-meter with Sweeney, Watters and Aaron Wionzek.
Senior Matt Ferrarelli won the 200 individual medley (1:54.46) and placed second in the 100 (51.55) and 200 backstroke (1:50.20) to help the Tigers win in convincing fashion. Other top Tiger finishers where Tyler Belanger with his win in the 100 freestyle (46.37) and second place in the 50 freestyle (21.37), Radu Miclaus won the 200 butterfly (1:53.82) and placed second in the 100 butterfly (51.19).
The men's team returns to action on Saturday, November 2 against Truman State in Kirksville, Mo.
