
No. 1 Ranked UCLA wins the South Central Regional

Columbia, Mo.-Hosting the 2003 South Central Regional, the No. 26 ranked Missouri Tigers finished fifth overall scoring a 194.825. The No. 1 ranked UCLA Bruins took the Regional title scoring a 197.700 and the Iowa Hawkeyes finished second scoring a 195.875. Both teams advance to the NCAA Championship in Lincoln, Neb., April 24-26. Also appearing, Oregon State finished third (195.850), Arizona placed fourth (195.450) and Illinois-Chicago finished sixth (193.200).
Opening their meet on the uneven bars, the Tigers scored a 48.375. Sophomore Alisha Robinson led Mizzou on the apparatus scoring a 9.875. Junior Lindsay Davis helped the Tigers scoring a 9.775 and freshman Katie Roets recorded a 9.700.
Moving on the balance beam, freshman Lauren Schwartzman topped the Tigers scoring a 9.800. Senior Alina Hamm followed posting a 9.725 and Robinson recorded a 9.700 to help Missouri's 48.450 team score.
After taking a bye rotation, Missouri returned to the arena rejuvenated posting a 49.275. Hamm warmed the team up scoring a 9.750 in the first routine, her teammates followed with five 9.8+ marks to round out the event. Rachel Bridges scored a 9.800, Davis recorded a 9.850 and Robinson, Schwartzman and junior Andrea Nervig each scored 9.875s to boost Mizzou.
Finishing up their Regional meet, Missouri scored a 48.725 to finish second overall in the vault competition. Robinson led the pack winning the Regional title scoring a 9.900 and earns advancement to the National meet. Bolstering Robinson's scores Bridges scored a 9.750 and Schwartzman scored a 9.725. Both Hamm and freshman Katie Roets scored a 9.675.
In the all-around competition, Robinson finished fourth scoring a 39.350 to advance to the national competition for the second straight year in the all-around competition.
Adding to the evening, Missouri assistant coach Paul Scardina was honored as the 2003 South Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year.
