
Gymnastics Takes Third at NCAA West Regional

BERKELEY, Calif. - The Missouri gymnastics team claimed third-place with a 194.300 at the NCAA West Regional on Saturday night in Berkeley, Calif. Utah finished first with a 197.325, Nebraska scored a 196.675 for second, host California had a 193.900 for fourth, Washington took fifth with a 193.300 and Sacramento State finished sixth with a 191.725. Sophomore Adrianne Perry will make her second appearance at the NCAA Championships as an all-around competitor after scoring a 39.300.
The finish marks the third straight season the Tigers fell one spot short of their quest for the NCAA Championships.
The Tigers started their night somewhat slow with a 48.575 on floor after a bye in the first rotation. Perry paced Mizzou with a 9.800, followed by junior Julie Abaray, who notched a 9.775. Seniors Whitney Crater and Amanda Pezzullo each posted a 9.700.
Missouri came back strong in the third rotation to notch a 48.850 on the event. Perry again led the squad with a 9.850 to tie for sixth and Pezzullo and Crater scored 9.800 and 9.775, respectively.
After a bye in the fourth rotation, Mizzou moved to the bars, where the team scored a 48.875. Perry, sophomore Alicia Hatcher and freshman Becky Scholle all looked good on the event, as they scored a 9.825, 9.800 and 9.775, respectively, as Perry tied for eighth. Additionally, Abaray also notched a 9.750 and senior Alicia Gilmore posted a 9.725.
The Tigers closed the meet on beam and was forced to count a fall for the first time since mid-February, as they had a 48.000 on the event. Perry again tied for sixth-place with a 9.825, while Abaray scored a 9.800 and Hatcher posted a 9.725.
Perry will compete at the NCAA Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah, on April 26. If she qualifies for the individual event finals, Perry will also compete on April 28. Last season Perry narrowly missed all-America honors on beam as she finished in ninth place on the event in the first session.
