Columbia, Mo. - Beginning a two-meet home stand, the No. 15 Tiger Gymnastics team started it off by topping Illinois-Chicago 195.400-190.500. Sophomore Sarah Shire (Columbia, Mo.) earned her second all-around crown of the season as she notched a 39.375. Her score was also a season high and career high in the all-around.
The Tigers started the meet by posting a 48.600 on vault. Kicking off the vault, sophomore Danielle Guider (Nutley, N. J.), after competing as a regular on vault last season, tallied a 9.675 in her first appearance in the vault lineup this season. Next up, freshman Lauren Stephenson (Kansas City, Mo.) scored a career best on vault tallying a 9.800. Her previous best was 9.600 last week against Nebraska. Stephenson's 9.800 was the team high for the Tigers. Sophomore Sarah Shire (Columbia, Mo.) finished second with a 9.775 while senior Ashley Khederian (Carlisle, Mass.) posted a 9.700.
The Tigers led 48.600 - 48.500 after the first rotation. Next up, the Tigers headed to the bars, an event that has plagued the Tigers throughout the 2008 season. Putting up a season high 48.925, the Tigers seemed to put their bar woes behind them. Khederian started the Tigers off on the right foot by scoring a 9.700 just shy of her season high of 9.775. Shire seems to be hitting her stride on bars during the last two meets. Posting a 9.875, Shire topped her career high, set last week at Nebraska. Junior Alicia Hatcher (Blue Springs, Mo.), last weeks Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week, tallied a 9.850, placing her second on the event, behind only Shire. Perry took third place, posting a 9.825.
Heading to beam, Mizzou led the Flames 97.525 - 95.750. Just like on the vault, Guider kicked things off for the Tigers. Tallying a 9.750, the Tigers were all set to put up a big score on beam. Hatcher, who tied her career high last week in Lincoln, continued the good showing on beam, posting a 9.775. Shire, after struggling for her standards on beam in the last two meets, got back in track scoring a 9.875. Anchoring beam, Perry posted a season high 9.900, giving the Tigers a 49.000 on beam. The 49.000 was just .100 shy of the season high mark set last week at Nebraska.
The Tigers took a commanding lead of 146.525 - 143.550 into the final rotation, the floor exercise. Leading off her third event of the night, Guider tallied a 9.700. Hatcher continued her quality productivity, scoring a new career mark on floor of 9.775. Last week, Hatcher was just shy of her career mark, but bested it this week. Perry and Shire also posted huge scores, led by Shire's 9.850. Perry notched a 9.825, good enough to place her second in the all-around with a 39.125. Khederian finished just short of a 39.000 in the all-around with a 38.825.
Next up for the Tigers will be the W.G. Grinders Beauty and the Beast on Friday, Feb. 8 against Centenary. Stay tuned to www.mutigers.com for all the latest on Tiger Gymnastics.
