Athens, Ga. - Tiger junior Adrianne Perry (Columbia, Mo.) concluded the 2008 Tiger Gymnastics season, competing as an individual all-arounder, with a 37th place finish at the NCAA National Championships as she tallied a 38.600. Perry had a great meet, improving her score on every event from last season, except for beam, which she fell off of. All in all, Perry's season concluded as one of the most memorable in Mizzou Gymnastics history.
Perry, who rotated with the University of Michigan, began her night on the floor exercise. Perry had a solid routine in the individual role as she tallied a 9.825. Her score, although not her best of the season, set her up to have a very strong meet as she finished in 16th place in the session. Taking the momentum from the floor routine, Perry headed to what has arguably been her best event all season, the vault.
Perry, once again posted another solid score of 9.850, giving her a total score of 19.675 through the first two events. In fact, Perry finished tied for second on vault after the first three rotations, giving her a very good shot at All-America honors on that event. Only Michigan's Kylee Botterman scored better than Perry, as Botterman posted a 9.875. Perry would finish the session with the 10th best vault score on the night, just missing second team All-America honors. Perry needed to be in the top eight.
Heading to bars, Perry looked to be in great shape for a shot at All-America honors. Looking for more on bars, Perry had a slight set-back as she notched a 9.750, scoring better than only three other gymnasts. Perry took a step on her landing, costing her crucial tenths. Through three events, Perry had posted a 29.425.
Heading to what has been one of her best events all season, the balance beam, Perry was in need of a big score to secure the schools first ever All-America honors in the all-around and first since 2005 on any event.
The cards did not fall into place, as Perry stumbled on her final series and could not stay on the beam, finishing with a 9.175, ending her chance at All-American honors.
Host school Georgia took home the session title as they tallied a 197.625, while Utah and Stanford finished second and third, respectively, both qualifying for tomorrow's Super Six competition. The three teams joined Alabama, Florida and LSU who qualified for the Super Six in the afternoon session.
In all, Perry had one of the most memorable seasons in Mizzou Gymnastics history. Perry won the all-around title in six of her final seven regular season meets, became the schools first ever Conference champion in the all-around and also is the only Tiger to qualify for the NCAA Nationals Championships in each of her first three season. Coming off of her performance this season, Perry has set the bar and expectations higher than ever heading into her senior season.
