SHREVEPORT, La. - Two days after the meet was originally scheduled, the No. 17 Missouri Tigers (7-1) earned another win at Centenary College (0-7) on Valentine's Day 195.000-189.800. Both teams sported pink in their uniforms in support of Centenary's Think Pink meet for breast cancer awareness. Senior All-American Sarah Shire (Columbia, Mo.) won her fourth all-around title of the season with a 39.350.
Being the road team, Missouri started the meet on bars with freshman Lauren Swankoski (Chadds Ford, Pa.) leading the way with a 9.675. Sophomore Allie Heizelman (Cypress, Texas) earned a 9.650, making way for senior Becky Scholle (Chesterfield, Mo.) who earned her first individual title of the year with a 9.800 on the event. Sophomore Mary Burke (Inverness, Ill.) and Shire rounded out the rotation with scores of 9.625 and 9.750, respectively. After the first rotation, the Tigers led the Ladies 48.500 - 47.725.
The Tigers moved to the second rotation on vault where Scholle started it off with a 9.750 followed by a 9.600 from freshman Tori Howard (Chesterfield, Mo.). Junior Alex Gold (Plano, Texas) nailed a huge vault to receive a 9.850 and the event title, the first of the year for the Texas native. Burke hit her vault for a 9.775, while Shire closed it out for the team with a 9.825. By the halfway point Missouri had extended its lead to close to three points, 97.300 - 94.700.
On floor, Howard started things off for the Tigers with a 9.775, followed by Gold who earned the same score. Swankoski posted a 9.725 for the team along with a 9.600 from Burke. Shire finished it out on floor with a 9.850 and the event title. Heading into the fourth and final rotation, Missouri still retained the lead over Centenary 146.025 - 142.050.
Missouri moved to beam for the final rotation where senior Danielle Guider (Nutley, N.J.) received a 9.750, while Gold posted a 9.775. Burke held down the middle of the rotation with a beautiful routine that earned her a new career high 9.875 on the event. Boehmer posted a 9.650 to set the pace for Shire's season-high, and career-high tying, 9.925 and the beam title.
Scholle's title on bars and Gold's title on vault was the second of each gymnast's career. Shire now has 17 career all-around titles, while the beam title is the sixth of the season for the senior.
Missouri returns home to Columbia, Mo., next Friday, Feb. 19 to take on Big 12 rival No. 1 ranked Oklahoma. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
