
No. 14 Tigers Win Big on Senior Day

COLUMBIA, Mo. - It was already a special afternoon in the Hearnes Center as the No. 14 Missouri Tigers (11-3) bid farewell to four influential Tiger seniors in their last regular-season meet of the year, but a 196.300-183.075 win over Centenary College of Lousiana (0-11) made the day even more poignant for seniors Brooke Boehmer (Overland Park, Kan.), Danielle Guider (Nutley, N.J.), Becky Scholle (Chesterfield, Mo.) and All-American Sarah Shire (Columbia, Mo.). Shire tallied a 39.600 in the all-around to take her ninth all-around title of the year.
Senior Day started with the Tigers on vault with Scholle and freshman Lauren Swankoski (Chadds Ford, Pa.) both posting a 9.800. Guider followed with a new season-high 9.825. Sophomore Mary Burke (Inverness, Ill.) tallied a 9.850 that was followed by the same score from junior Alex Gold (Plano, Texas). Shire closed out the rotation with a 9.900 to help the Tigers to a new season-high 49.225 on vault. Centenary posted a 44.575 on bars to give the Missouri the lead after the first rotation.
The Tigers moved to bars where Swankoski led the team off with a 9.550. Sophomore Allie Heizelman (Cypress, Texas) and Scholle held down the middle of the lineup each scoring 9.800. Next was Burke who posted a 9.825 that made way for Shire's 9.925. The Tigers totaled a 48.900 on bars to hold a 98.125 lead over Centenary's 91.725 at the halfway point.
On beam, Boehmer got the Tigers going with a 9.725, which was followed by a 9.675 from Gold. The middle of the lineup was consisted of a 9.750 from Guider and a 9.800 from Burke. Shire followed and matched her career-high with a 9.950. Missouri earned a 48.900 on beam to remain in the lead after three rotations, 147.025-139.850.
Missouri moved to floor for the last rotation of the night. Gold was first up on the event and posted a 9.800 that set up a career-high tying 9.900 from Swankoski. Guider and Burke competed in the middle spots of the rotation earning a 9.850 and 9.900, respectively. Shire followed with an excellent floor routine, but a slight step out-of-bounds gave her a 9.825. The Tigers totaled a 49.275 on floor to give them a team total of 196.300 at the end of the meet.
Swankoski and Burke tied for the floor title, while Shire took home the vault, bars and beam event titles. Shire's all-around win moved her to 22 for her career.
The Tigers head into post-season competition next week with the Big 12 Championship in Lincoln, Neb. Missouri will compete for its first Big 12 gymnastics championship. The meet on Saturday, March 27 against Iowa State, Nebraska and Oklahoma is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
