
Gymnastics Posts Season High Score at Arizona

Tucson, Ariz. -Mizzou Gymnastics closed out the regular season at Arizona on Saturday with a season high 195.450 score. The Arizona Wildcats took the meet with a 196.625 team total. The Tigers earned two event titles at the meet, as sophomore Rachel Updike took the vault title with a 9.900 score. Senior Tori Howard earned the Tigers' second event title with a 9.875 score on beam. She tied for first on the event with Arizona's Molly Quirk. Updike finished third on the beam with a 9.825 score.
Missouri started the meet on bars, putting up a team total of 48.625. Both Updike and Taylor Medrea led the team on the event with 9.775 scores. Mackenzie McGill and Sandra Ostad also had great performances, scoring 9.700 on their bar routines. Laura Kappler also contributed to the team score with a 9.675.
Missouri had an excellent showing on the vault, putting up a 48.850 team total. Both Kappler and Eubank shined on the event earning career high scores. Kappler put up a career high 9.750 and Eubank earned a career high 9.850. Updike again led the Tigers on the event with a 9.900 score, and Howard also put on a good show earning a 9.800. Updike's 9.900 score not only led the Tigers, but earned her the event title as well.
The Tigers again showed their strengths on the floor exercise, posting a 49.025 team total. Both Kappler and Eubank continued their record setting ways setting new career highs of 9.650 and 9.775, respectively. Howard led Mizzou through the rotation with a 9.875 score, while both Ostad and Cathryn Aliceaacosta earned 9.800 scores. Medrea competed in the lead-off spot, earning a 9.775 as well.
The Tigers closed the meet on the balance beam with a 48.950, the second-highest score of the season on the event. Freshman Rachel Henderson set a new career high with a 9.775 score, and Howard again led Missouri on the event with a 9.875 for her routine. The score also earned her a share of the event title. Updike posted a strong score with a 9.825 for the Tigers to take third place, and Kappler also contributed to the team total with a 9.700 score.
Missouri will begin postseason competition at the 2013 SEC Gymnastics Championships on March 23. The meet will be a two-session event in Little Rock, Ark.
