Mizzou Sets Nine Career Highs in Win Over Lindenwood

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou gymnastics team set nine individual career highs as Missouri posted a 194.550-193.675 victory over the Lindenwood Lions on Sunday afternoon at the Hearnes Center. Freshman Becca Schugel took home her first career all-around title (39.175) and tied for the beam crown. Additionally, redshirt senior Katelyn Trevino (vault), freshman Shauna Miller (bars and beam), sophomore Alyson Heimsath (beam) and freshman Kennedi Harris (floor) also claimed event wins on the day.
The Tigers improved to 5-3 on the season, while the Lions fell to 1-5.
Overall, seven different Mizzou gymnasts combined to set nine new career bests and the Tigers also received a season best floor score (49.150) to close out the meet.
Mizzou opened the meet with a great vault rotation, totaling 49.175 on the event, the second highest score of the year. Redshirt senior stuck the Tigers' final vault to earn a career best 9.900 and the event title. Senior Laura Kappler was second with a 9.875 and Schugel tied for third after a vault of 9.850. Also in the lineup were Harris and sophomore Angie Kern, both of whom posted a 9.775.
Bars saw three different Tigers notch personal bests, led by Miller's winning 9.900. Tying second on the event were seniors Briana Conkle and Becca Johnson with 9.875s, which stood as a high for Conkle. Schugel continued her strong night with a career best 9.800 to tie for sixth. Overall, Mizzou scored 48.575 in the rotation.
Three different Mizzou competitors earned a share of the beam crown with scores of 9.775: Miller, Schugel and Heimsath. Heimsath's tally was good enough to tie her personal best, a score she also posted against Kentucky on Friday. As a team, the Tigers notched a 47.650 on beam.
Everything came together for Missouri on floor for season high team score of 49.150 on the event, a mark 0.25 higher than the squad's 49.125 on Jan. 30. For the second meet in a row, Harris set a new best with a winning 9.900 against the Lions. Two days previous, the freshman posted a then-high of 9.850 in a meet against Kentucky. Kappler and Heimsath also had new career bests in the rotation with identical 9.850s to tie for second overall. Additionally, Kern notched a season high 9.800 in the leadoff spot.
Mizzou hits the road on Friday, Feb. 13 when the team travels to Gainesville, Fla., to face No. 2 Florida at 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT). The meet will be broadcast live on SEC Network + and on ESPN2 on tape delay on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. CT, with Melissa Lee, Courtney Kupets and Suri Serano on the call.
