COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Track & Field recorded 12 first-place finishes, including two from freshman on Saturday afternoon at the Missouri Holiday Opener in Columbia, Mo. Freshman Arianna Fisher (San Jose, Calif.) had a big collegiate debut, as she broke the school record in the indoor triple jump with a mark of 12.68m (41-7.25).
Three other Tigers set program top-10 marks, as redshirt junior Jordan McClendon (Black Jack, Mo.) won the weight throw with a throw of 20.03m (65-8.75), good enough for the third-best throw in school history, while redshirt Freshman Jayson Ashford (Fairview Heights, Ill.) won the men's 200m dash with a time of 21.60, giving him the ninth best indoor time in school history and freshman Georgi Nachev (Yambol, Bulgaria) won the triple jump with a mark of 15.15m (49-8.5), the 10th-best mark in school history.
NOTABLE FINISHES
Fisher competed for the first time this season and for the first time in her Mizzou career. The Tiger freshman recorded a first-place finish Saturday in the triple jump with a school record time of 12.68m (41-7.25). Fisher's mark surpassed the previous school record time of 12.57m (41-3), set by Hedvig Glomsroed in 2007, and is the fifth-best women's indoor triple jump mark recorded this collegiate season. McClendon finished first in the weight throw with a mark of 20.03 (65-8.75). McClendon's mark moved her into the number three spot all-time for the Mizzou Women.
Ashford won the 200m dash with a time of 21.60, which moved him into the ninth spot on the Missouri indoor all-time top-10. Ashford surpassed Thomas Wood's time of 21.62, set in 1998. Nachev's moved into Mizzou's top-10 all-time in the triple jump with a mark of 15.15m (49-8.5), surpassing Darnelle Jobe's mark of 15.14m in 1979.
Also recording top finishes on the day for Mizzou was redshirt senior Avery Carter (Lee Summit, Mo.), redshirt senior Will Fife (Jefferson City, Mo.), senior Valeria Kostiuk (Kiev, Ukraine.), sophomore Christopher Conrad (O'Fallon, Ill.), junior Faramola Shonekan (Columbia, Mo.) senior Landon Cuskelly (El Dorado, Kan.), and redshirt sophomore Emily Stauffer (Reinholds, Penn.)
