FORT WORTH, Texas - Mizzou gymnastics senior Brooke Kelly (Birmingham, Ala.) wrapped her her Tiger career at the 2019 NCAA Championships on Friday afternoon at the Fort Worth Convention Center in Fort Worth, Texas. An individual event qualifier, Kelly competed only on beam.
Rotating with LSU in the first rotation, Kelly tallied a score of 9.7625 on beam in the first semifinal on Friday.
"Today was such an incredible experience," Kelly said. "I wouldn't have wanted to end my career any other way. Hitting that beam routine was just the icing on the cake. Thank you to my three amazing coaches, mom, athletic trainer, Helen (club coach), and my awesome teammates, they all have helped me overcome and achieve so many things in my life. I can't wait to cheer on the returners and the incoming freshmen next year. Mizzou is on the rise and will be something special in 2020."
"We are so excited that Brooke could finish her career at the NCAA Championships," Head Coach Shannon Welker said. "She did a great routine today. Brooke has been such a positive representative of the Mizzou gymnastics program. I'm so proud of the woman she has become and am excited to have such a passionate alumna!"
Kelly competed in 50 meets in her Tiger career, including 46 times in the beam lineup. She owns a career-high of 9.925 on the event, which she has accomplished three times in her career, twice in 2018 and once during the 2017 season. This year, Kelly had season-bests of 9.875 on beam and 9.825 on bars, both set at the NCAA Athens Regional on April 5.
She was the 10th Tiger to earn an individual qualification to the NCAA Championships in program history, and the first since current redshirt junior Morgan Porter (Overland, Mo). earned a berth as an all-arounder as a freshman in 2016.
