Mizzou Swimming & Diving Set for 2020 SEC Championships

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou men's and women's swimming and diving teams head to Auburn, Ala., this week for the 2020 Southeastern Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. The five-day meet runs Tuesday, Feb. 18 - Saturday, Feb. 22 at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center on the campus of Auburn University.
QUICK HITTERS
- The 2020 SEC Championships will be broadcast live on SEC Network+ throughout the entirety of the meet. Beginning on Wednesday, prelims begin at 9:30 a.m. ET and finals at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday's diving prelims begin at 10:30 a.m. while finals begin at 4:20 p.m.
- Last season the Tiger men finished a program-record second with 1,137 points, while the women placed seventh with 640 points.
- Head Coach Andrew Grevers is in his first full season at the helm of the men's and women's programs after serving as interim head coach a season ago.
- Mizzou claimed its first men's conference relay title in program history in 2019 when the Tigers took home the 400 medley relay crown. Three current Tigers swam on that relay: senior Daniel Hein (backstroke), senior Caleb Hicks (breaststroke) and sophomore Danny Kovac (butterfly).
- A total of 13 Tigers enter SECs ranked among the top 25 in their respective events.
- In fact, seven Tigers own top 10 times in their events. On the women's side, junior Haley Hynes ranks second in the 100 back and junior Sarah Thompson ranks fourth in the 50 free and seventh in the 100 back.
- For the men, Kovac ranks fourth in the 200 IM and eighth in the 100 fly, senior Micah Slaton is eighth in the 200 fly and ninth in the 100 fly, senior Nick Alexander is eighth in the 200 back, junior Carter Grimes is ninth in the 400 IM, and Hein is 10th in the 100 back.
- Seven men's and nine women's SEC programs enter the Championships ranked in the top 25 of the latest polls. On the men's side, Texas A&M leads the way in fifth, followed by Mizzou (sixth), Georgia (eighth), Florida (ninth), Tennessee (12th), LSU (22nd) and Kentucky (25th). For the women, Auburn enters at fourth, joined by Florida (eighth), Georgia (ninth), Texas A&M (11th), Kentucky (13th), Auburn (14th), LSU (17th), Alabama (18th) and Mizzou (20th).
MIZZOU AT THE SEC CHAMPIONSHIPS
- 2020 marks Mizzou's eighth season in the Southeastern Conference
- The Tiger men own finishes of second (2019), fifth (2013, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018) and sixth (2015), while the women own finishes of fifth (2016), sixth (2017 and 2018), seventh (2019), eighth (2013 and 2015) and ninth (2014)
- Last season the Tiger men claimed the 400 medley relay title for the program's first men's conference relay crown in school history
- Five Tigers have combined to win six SEC individual titles
- In 2013, David Bonuchi swept the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards en route to SEC High-Meet Scorer and Male Diver of the Year honors
- Also in 2013, Loren Figueroa claimed the women's 1-meter crown
- Missouri also took home the women's 1-meter title in 2017 as Lauren Reedy placed first
- Katharine Ross won Mizzou's first SEC swimming title as she won the 2016 women's 100 breast title
- In 2019, Mikel Schreuders became the the Tigers' first men's swimmer to claim a title, winning the 200 free in a championship record time.

- Mizzou's swimmers are among some of the nation's fastest this season, as 13 Tigers have combined to post 24 times that rank among the top 25 nationally in individual events.
