Mizzou Tennis Sweeps Omaha in Sunday Doubleheader

Mizzou beats Omaha, 7-0 and 4-1 in doubleheader to improve to 8-2

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Tennis (8-2, 0-0 SEC) racked up another pair of victories on Sunday, defeating Nebraska-Omaha (3-2, 0-0 OVC), 7-0 and 4-1, at the Mizzou Tennis Complex. The wins give Mizzou six consecutive wins as the Tigers improve to 8-2 on the season.

MATCH 1

In the first match of the day, Mizzou pulled off a clean sweep of the Mavericks, winning 7-0. The Tigers win the doubles point after victories on courts 2 and 3 from senior Ellie Wright (Gainesville, Fla.) and sophomore Elys Ventura (Aukland, New Zealand), as well as senior Serena Nash (Bradford, England) and senior Gabrielle Goldin (Bradenton, Fla.).

Mizzou on all six matches in singles play as well, as the Tigers received victories from senior Marta Oliveira (Libson, Portugal), Wright, Ventura, freshman Valentina Vazquez Pongruber (Santiago, Chile), Nash and freshman Rom Cardenas Rifka (Merida, Yucatan, Mexico).

MATCH 2

In the second match of the day, Mizzou won all three doubles matches and earned victories on courts 1, 2 and 3 in singles action to seal the victory. In singles play, Mizzou earned wins from Wright, Vazquez Pongruber and Ventura.

UP NEXT

Mizzou will next host Illinois State on Sunday, Feb. 7 for a doubleheader. The matches are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. CT.
