Three Tigers claimed spots in the Top-30
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Women's Golf closed out their first event of the 2021 spring season Sunday afternoon at the Match-Up hosted by Florida State. The team finished in 12th place with a 60-over 924 (303-311-310), in addition to three Tigers in the Top-30.
"It was great to get back on the course as a team. We were inconsistent with our short games this weekend and that will be a point of emphasis in practice while we prepare for our next event," said head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer. "We did have some nice golf that was played by everyone and I like the experience our freshmen received."
Leading the team was redshirt senior Jess Yuen (Bolingbrook, Ill.) who launched into her spring season by firing her second-lowest score of the year, a 1-over 73. She bounced back in the third round with a 2-over 74 after posting a 77 on the second day to end with an 8-over 224 at T-18.
Both Florida native freshman Emily Staples (Orlando, Fla.) and senior Noelle Beijer (Assendelft, The Netherlands) claimed their season-best finishes at T-30. Staples dominated the greens this weekend to sink a total of nine birdies. She fired back-to-back 3-over 75s to tie her season-low round score to end with a 12-over par 228. Beijer showed consistency with 10 consecutive pars in the third round to card a 3-over 75 in addition to also securing nine birdies across the board.
In her career debut, freshman Martina Munoz (Valencia, Spain) sandwiched her best score of a 79 in the second round with two 82s. She tallied four birdies on the weekend to finish with a 27-over par in 67th place. Rounding out the team was redshirt junior Julia Bower (Columbia, Mo.) who posted an overall 36-over 252 to land T-71.
The Tigers will return to action to compete in The Liz Murphey tournament hosted by Georgia in three weeks from March 19-21.
