Yuen claims her first Top-5 place of the season
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Women's Golf closed out their second spring event, the Liz Murphey Spring Collegiate Classic in 14th place on Sunday afternoon after posting a collective score of 56-over 923 (301-311-311). Redshirt senior Jess Yuen (Bolingbrook, Ill.) led the charge for the Tigers placing T-3 overall with a 2-over 218.
"Jess looked really good at this event. The weather was a factor with big north winds each day and fast greens. She was locked in & didn't get distracted or frustrated by the challenging course and conditions. It's great to see her get her swagger and confidence back," said head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer.
Yuen came out swinging on day one by firing a 2-under 70 to tie her season-low round score. She quickly followed with back-to-back 74s to also tie her season-low 54-hole event score. Her season-best performance not only marks her third consecutive Top-20 finish of the year, but also her best-finish since placing T-3 at the Jim West Challenge in her junior 2018-19 season.
"I had a rough start in the third round. I felt the nerves kicking in from the beginning but focused on my process and never gave up. I'm really proud of how I was able to flip the switch and finish strong," said Yuen.
Both sophomores Sophia Yoemans (Redwing, Minn.) and Brianne Bolden made their spring season debuts this weekend. Yoemans' play was highlighted by her 3-over 75 first round score to end the event with a 19-over 235 at T-60. Bolden posted a 4-over 76 on day one to then lock in on the greens in the second round, sinking a total of five birdies on the day. She placed T-66 with a 20-over 236.
Senior Noelle Beijer (Assendelft, The Netherlands) closed the event with her best round of the weekend, a 4-over 76, finishing at T-78 with a 24-over 240. Rounding out the Tigers team score was freshman Emily Staples (Orlando, Fla.) who ended in 88th place with a 24-over 240.
The team travels next to Argyle, Texas to compete in The Bruzzy, hosted by North Texas from March 28-29.
