This is Sands third All-District honor, as deMarrais makes her debut on the list
Mizzou volleyball student-athletes Maya Sands (Rock Falls, Ill.) and Janet deMarrais (Colleyville, Texas) were selected to the 2025 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Volleyball team, the organization announced Tuesday, Dec. 16.
The 2025 Academic All-District Volleyball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
Sands has now earned this distinction for the third-straight season, as this is deMarrais's first time on the squad. Missouri now has 17 CoSIDA/CSC All-District players.
Senior libero Maya Sands was selected to her third career CSC Academic All-District Volleyball team.
The Rock Falls, Illinois native, is graduating with a Bachelor's in Parks, Recreation, & Sport: Sport Management at Mizzou. Academically, she has been a part of the Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll every year since joining the Black & Gold (2023-24).
During her senior year, she ranked first during the conference slate with 274 digs (4.72 digs/set). Sands also recorded the highest number of digs in conference play for a single game, as she set a new career high with 32 against South Carolina (10/24).
Sands paced the rest of the SEC by over 70 digs at the end of the regular season and ended her senior year with 511 digs and led the league with 4.69 digs per set.
The libero ended her career with 1,588 digs with the Tigers, ranking her third in program history. She finished with 4.64 digs per set in her three years, putting her first in program history.
In her career, she ended up with 2,000 career digs (4.41 digs/set), 436 assists (.96 assists/set) and 122 service aces (.27 SA/set). As she was named an AVCA All-American H.M. in 2024, she is a three-time AVCA All-Region performer and is a three-time All-SEC honoree (2025; All-SEC second team, 2023-24; All-SEC first team).
Senior outside hitter Janet deMarrais was selected to her first career CSC Academic All-District Volleyball team.
The Colleyville native is graduating with a Bachelor's in Parks, Recreation, & Sport: Sport Management at Mizzou. Academically, she has been on the Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll over the past two seasons for the Tigers (2023-24).
During her senior year, she ranked third on the squad with 220 kills (2.78 kills/set). deMarrais earned two distinctions over the season, including a spot on two early-season All-Tournament Teams: the Leatherneck Classic (Western Illinois) and the Fight in the Fort (TCU).
Against TCU (9/12), the outside hitter recorded her lone double-double of the season as she produced 16 kills and 11 digs against the ranked Horned Frogs.
Alongside her success on the offensive end, deMarrais ranked fifth on the squad in digs with 101 (.68 digs/set) and was sixth on the team with 32 blocks. Her total of 10 solo blocks was third for the Tigers, as she recorded 22 assisted blocks.
The four-year letter winner for the Tigers finishes her career at Mizzou with 102 matches played, 926 kills (2.77 kills/set), 283 digs (.85 digs/set), 127 total blocks (.38 blocks/set) and 1057 points (3.16 points/set).
Both players will now move on to the CSC Academic All-American voting, which runs through Dec. 23. Voting consists of CSC members selecting the top candidates who exemplify both academic and athletic prowess.
