
No. 23 Mizzou Volleyball Kicks Off Fight In the Fort WIth Win Over Wyoming

The Tigers secured a victory, 3-1, in the first leg of the doubleheader today (Sept. 11)
Mizzou volleyball (4-2) picked up its first win of the Fight in the Fort, as it took down Wyoming (2-4), 3-1, on Thursday, Sept. 11 at Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Tigers held off a late rally by the Cowgirls in the fourth, as Mizzou started the three-game trip in the winners' column.
KEY PLAYERS
- Redshirt junior Marina Crownover recorded her fourth double-double of the season as she gathered 40 assists and 17 digs – a new career high.
- Senior Maya Sands recorded a game-high 26 digs.
- Freshman Zoey Matias-Lopez posted three service aces alongside her nine digs.
- Redshirt senior Tyrah Ariail and senior Regan Haith had eight total blocks, respectively.
- Senior Janet deMarrais tallied 13 kills alongside five total blocks and eight digs.
FIRST SET (25-14, Mizzou leads 1-0)
The Tigers opened up the first set a little slow, with Wyoming taking an initial 4-0 lead. However, MU found momentum, scoring eight-straight points, including two kills from deMarrais.
That switch remained for the entirety of the set as Mizzou would house another five-point scoring run leading to its largest set victory of the season, 25-14.
Freshman Asia Harvey played a significant role in that, as she ended up with four kills in the set and five total in her first career start.
SECOND SET (20-25, Match Tied 1-1)
Once again, the Tigers fell behind to open the set, as the Cowgirls started with an 8-3 advantage. That proved to be the difference as Wyoming won the second set 25-20.
The blocking scheme from the Cowgirls played a significant role in the set, as Wyoming out blocked the Tigers 6-2 in the second set.
THIRD SET (25-18, Mizzou leads 2-1)
Mizzou continues to be successful in the third set, as it is now 6-0 in the set this season.
The Tigers took advantage after the media timeout, as they initially trailed 15-14, but left the huddle to produce a 5-0 stretch, making it 19-15.
FOURTH SET (30-28, Mizzou wins 3-1)
MU claimed the first five points of the set and remained ahead with their largest lead being 12-5. However, eventually the Cowgirls would rally back to even it at 20-20.
At that point, it was a back-and-forth affair with each team alternating blows all the way till extra points were needed. In the end, two attack errors proved to be the difference as the Tigers pulled it out 30-28.
GAME NOTES
- Wyoming leads the all-time series 3-2.
- Head coach Dawn Sullivan is 44-24 with the Tigers and has a road record of 15-13. Sullivan is 153-62 overall.
UP NEXT
The Tigers will play another match today, as they take on Rhode Island at 4 p.m. at the Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
