The Tigers move to 10-4-0 in SEC home openers since joining the conference.
Mizzou soccer opened Southeastern Conference play with a 3-1 victory over Texas on Friday at Audrey J. Walton Soccer Stadium.
The Tigers (4-3-1, 1-0-0 SEC) spread the scoring across its front line, with goals coming from Brianna Buels, Olivia Chianelli and Emily Derucki to defeat the Longhorns (2-5-1, 0-1-0 SEC) and earn the program's 10th SEC home-opening win.
"We set out to make some noise in the SEC this season," head coach Stefanie Golan said. "A result like this definitely puts out a statement out that we're for real and were excited for the next opportunity."
Mizzou opened the match in control offensively, with the pair of early crosses directed towards the offensive box by Jessica Larson stopped by Texas defenders. The Tigers recorded the first on-target attempt of the evening in the ninth minute, as Bella Carrillo slipped through the defense on a through ball and forced a save from the Longhorn goalkeeper.
Mizzou's momentum eventually led to a goal in the 27th minute after Hailey Chambliss found Buels to set up Chianelli from the edge of the penalty box, slotting it past the Texas goalkeeper into the middle of the net for her second goal of the year.
The Black & Gold continued to apply the pressure in the second half, as Buels put Mizzou up 2-0 with a right-footed goal after a perfectly placed pass from Carrillo in the 56th minute.
Texas pulled one back in the 81st minute, but Missouri responded less than three minutes later. Derucki buried her first goal of the season in the 84th minute on another Chambliss assist to seal the result.
Senior goalkeeper Kate Phillips anchored the back line, making a key second-half save to preserve the Tigers' advantage. Phillips faced 12 total shots and turned away one of the two on-target attempts against her.
