
Soccer Takes on Fifth-Ranked Tennessee Thursday

The Tigers look to open conference play with six points for the first time since 2012.
Mizzou soccer continues Southeastern Conference action against No. 5 Tennessee on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Audrey J. Walton Stadium. The contest will be live streamed on SEC Network+.
PREGAME PRESS
-Missouri enters its ninth contest of the 2025 season after a 3-1 win against Texas on Friday, September 12, its first win over the Longhorns since 2008. Four of MU's five wins against Texas have come by multiple goals.
-With the result against Texas, Mizzou won its 10th SEC home opener since joining the conference in 2012.
-Emily Derucki ranks tied for seventh in the SEC in assists (8) and tied for sixth in assists per game (0.50). She scored her first goal of the year to cap off Mizzou's 3-1 win over Texas.
-Olivia Chianelli recorded her second goal of the season to break the 0-0 tie in the 27th minute against the Longhorns.
-Mia Yang scored her first career goal in the team's game at No. 15 Memphis on Thursday, August 28, in the 41st minute to tie the score at 1-1. She was assisted by Landis Canada, who recorded the second dime of her career.
-Mia Devrouax scored the first goal of her collegiate career during the 82nd minute against Youngstown State on Wednesday, August 20.
-Senior Hailey Chambliss recorded her first goal in the Black & Gold in the 79th minute versus Youngstown State and followed it up with a second just 48 seconds later, marking the first multi-goal game by a Tiger since Leah Selm tallied two against Oklahoma on October 18, 2024.
-Missouri added 11 shots in the second period against YSU to close the game in a total of 20, the most recorded in a game since posting 26 against SEMO on September 9, 2024.
SERIES BREAKDOWN
-Mizzou trails in the series, 2-9-1, including 2-3-1 at home.
-This marks the 13th meeting between the programs and the seventh in Columbia, where the Tigers are 2-3-1.
-The teams have played in close contests since head coach Stefanie Golan took over the program, with all but one of the four meetings under Golan being decided by one goal.
TAKING THE PITCH
-Missouri enters its 30th season of competition in 2025.
-Missouri will play host to nine games in 2025, including five Southeastern Conference matches. -Five of the team's nine home games will come in September.
-Mizzou's 2025 slate features a competitive schedule, ranking 27th nationally in cumulative opponent win percentage.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-Tennessee enters the game against Mizzou with a 6-1-1 record, most recently falling to Mississippi State on the road on Friday, September 12, 3-2.
-The Volunteers opened the season with a 2-0 win over defending national champions North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Since then, they have been ranked in the top six nationally, peaking at No. 1 last week.
-Tennessee was picked to finish fifth in the SEC by the league's coaches heading into the season.
-Five Vols made the SEC Preseason Watch List: Ally Brown, Reese Mattern, Mac Midgley, Shae O'Rourke and Anaiyah Robinson.
-Tennessee returns 21 student-athletes from its 2024 team, which finished 9-7-4. The team finished its season in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, where it fell 2-1 at Virginia Tech.
TIGERS EYEING HISTORY
-Mizzou welcomes No. 5 Tennessee to Columbia this week, marking the first time a top-five ranked SEC team has played at Walton Stadium since No. 3 South Carolina did on October 19, 2018.
-The Tigers look to defeat a top-five opponent for the second time in program history, last doing so against No. 3 Texas A&M on September 28, 2007, by a 3-2 result in double overtime in Columbia.
-MU is looking to open conference play with six points for the first time since joining the SEC in 2012. With a tie, it would make the first time since 2018 that the Tigers earned four points in their opening two conference matches.
-Mizzou enters the contest winning its previous two matches. With a win, it would mark the first time the program has won three in a row with a top-10 victory since beating Eastern Illinois, No. 7 Ohio State and Purdue between August 21 and 28, 2011.
LAST TIME OUT
-Mizzou opened SEC play with a 3-1 win over Texas, earning the program's 10th SEC home-opening victory.
-After winning by a pair of goals, Mizzou notched its sixth SEC opening-victory by multiple goals and first since 2017.
-Goals came from Brianna Buels, Chianelli and Emily Derucki, with assists credited to Chambliss (2) and Bella Carrillo.
-Chianelli scored in the 27th minute, Buels doubled the lead in the 56th, and Derucki sealed the result in the 84th after Texas pulled one back.
-Senior goalkeeper Kate Phillips made a key second-half save, facing 12 total shots and stopping one of two on target.
CHAMBLIS' NEW SUPPORT SYSTEM
-Chamblis scored her first goals as a Tiger against Youngstown State.
-She redshirted in the 2024 season due to the birth of her daughter, Oakley.
-The junior returned to the team for the spring exhibitions. Her two goals ranks tied as the second-most scored in a single game in the conference this season.
-Chambliss recorded the first multi-assist game of her career in the Tigers' 3-1 victory over Texas on Friday, September 12, leading to goals from Chianelli and Derucki.
PHANTASTIC PHILLIPS
-The Tigers' starting goalkeeper Phillips is off to the best start of her career in 2025, ranking among the top-10 goalies in the SEC in multiple categories.
-The Fishers, Indiana, native ranks tied for fourth in the conference in shutouts (3) and shutouts per game (0.38).
-She also ranks tied for sixth in the SEC in saves (18), tied for sixth in saves per game (2.25) and 10th in goals against average (0.88).
-Phillips has only given up multiple goals in a game twice this season.
PURSUING GOOD DREAMS
-Keegan Good leads all returning Tigers with three goals in 2024 while preparing for medical school.
-Over the summer, Good played for Rochester FC in the USL W League while interning at the Mayo Clinic on Dr. Rafael Sierra's orthopedic research team.
-The rising senior split her spring between anchoring Mizzou's midfield and studying for the MCAT while taking advanced science courses.
-Good hopes to follow in her father's medical footsteps, with interests in art, science, and a potential career in plastic surgery.
SIDELINE STAFF
-Golan made two staff additions this offseason, bringing in associate head coach Renee Horton from West Georgia and Austen Parker from North Texas to coach goalkeepers.
-Horton joins Mizzou Soccer as associate head coach after serving in the same role at West Georgia, with prior stops at Georgia, USC, Xavier, Lander and South Florida.
-Horton has guided teams to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances, a Big East title, and coached All-Americans and conference award winners.
-Parker joins Mizzou after one season at North Texas, with previous coaching stops at Central Oklahoma, Southwestern Christian and in Oklahoma club soccer.
-Former NAIA All-American at Mid-America Christian, Parker led his team to a 20-3-1 record and the 2019 NCCAA National Championship while setting single-season program records in wins, shutouts and goals-against average.
FACILITY FACELIFT
-The University of Missouri Department of Athletics received a generous philanthropic gift from Audrey J. Walton to fund enhancements to Mizzou's Audrey J. Walton Track and Field and Soccer Stadium, it was announced on Jan. 29, 2025.
-Walton's gift is one of the 10 largest in Mizzou Athletics history and the largest ever dedicated to support Olympic sports.
-The facility has carried Walton's name since it opened in 1996 and has served as a cornerstone for Mizzou Athletics, hosting countless events for track & field and women's soccer.
-The project includes a new natural grass soccer playing field and field subsurface improvements.
